A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a man who says Uber was unreachable despite claiming to have a 24-hour helpline that would have deactivated the driver who later went on a fatal shooting rampage that same day.
Defendants listed in the suit are the city of Battle Creek, Battle Creek Police Department Chief Jim Blocker, two Battle Creek Police officers, the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners, Calhoun County Sheriff Steven Hinkley as well as a deputy with the sheriff’s department.
More than 4 dozen restaurants and bars in the Detroit area are going after Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the new director of the state Health and Human Services Department for literally taking their businesses away from them.
What they are focusing on is what’s referred to as the “takings clause”. That offers protection for Americans who have had property taken in some fashion by the government in order to accomplish a goal.
