Michigan State Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey and State House Speaker Jason Wentworth sat down for a face-to-face talk with the Governor. They’ve had some virtual connections, but this is the leadership’s first direct contact with the Governor since August.

House GOP members plan to block the Governor from being able to decide issues relating to classroom teaching in state schools, and school sports schedules under the umbrella of virus protection.

The letter prods the Governor to respond with how local units of governments can have a seat at the table to have direct input into the Governor’s virus control orders. So far, the Governor hasn’t even been willing to allow the elected members of the State House and Senate to have a say in the matter.

The state closed out last week by imposing thousands of dollars in fines against a half dozen businesses. They are accused by state investigators of failing to protect employees from the virus. And the state does not plan to stop there.
