Some time ago, Jennifer Kalhorn of Homewatch CareGivers of Southwest Michigan, located in Kalamazoo, conceived of an idea.

Her idea was to create a video patterned after a Nike commercial that featured New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter — who spent much of his childhood in Kalamazoo and played baseball at Kalamazoo Central High School — tipping his hat. Her idea would be to have the entire community, seemingly, tipping their hats in appreciation to Jeter, who retires from the Yankees and baseball this weekend.

The result is a video that's had more than 25,000 views on YouTube, and has been seen on the Jumbotron screen at Yankee Stadium and at WMU's Waldo Stadium during last weekend's inaugural Bronco home football game. The video production, produced by ImageStream Communications, culminated in a community event on September 18 in which attendees gathered at the bottom of a hotel escalator and coordinated their hat tip for Jeter.
