The importance of the Michigan Air National Guard base in Battle Creek expands as a new mission for the base was announced Wednesday.

The US Department of Defense will be placing a cyber security operations squadron at the base, assigned to the 110th Attack Wing.

According to MLive, Governor Rick Snyder made the announcement, stating that the Battle Creek base was chosen due its work with training military members and civilians in strategies to defend against cyber breaches.

It will be one of four bases in the United States and will bring 70 new jobs to the guard base.
