We were told by Donald Trump when he was running for President that he is one of the best, if not the best at making deals, well one of his first “deals” does not hold up to that statement.

President Trump decided not to side with the Republican leadership or his Treasury Secretary in dealing with our debt limit and did decide to side with the Democratic leadership.

Senate Majority leader McConnell, Speaker of the House Ryan, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin were all in favor of raising the debt ceiling longer than Senate Minority leader Schumer and House Minority leader Pelosi wanted. In fact the Republican leadership in Congress wanted and discussed with the president an 18-month, and later a six-month, raising of the debt ceiling, which Schumer and Pelosi refused to accept.

President Trump agreed yesterday with Schumer and Pelosi to raise the country’s debt limit and fund the federal government through mid-December.  Essentially throwing this debt limit time bomb back to Congress to deal with the federal budget in the coming months.

On Air Force One President Trump made the following statement to all the reporters:

We had a very good meeting with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. We agreed to a three-month extension on debt ceiling, which they consider to be sacred — very important — always we’ll agree on debt ceiling automatically because of the importance of it.  So we have an extension, which will go out to December 15th.  That will include the debt ceiling, that will include the CRs, and it will include Harvey — the amount of money to be determined, but it will include — because everyone is in favor obviously of taking care of that situation. So we all very much agree

Include "CRs", whatever happened to creating a budget for the country?  For most of Obama's eight years we ran on Continuing Resolutions (CRs), I thought we were going to get back to regular order and pass real budgets?

My concern is President Trump in making this deal with Schumer and Pelosi received absolutely nothing in return.  The President received no concessions on decreasing spending, funding for the wall, nothing.

President Trump where is the “Art” in that?  I call that just laying down not deal making.  You see President Trump in a deal both sides are supposed to get something out of it.  I am sure it is on one of the pages of your book Art of the Deal.

Was this a payback to the Republican leadership that supported him on nothing?

Was this him believing that the Democrats will support him on some of his policies in the future, if he thinks that he is sadly mistaken?

Was this what he thought was in the best interest of the American people?

Or:

Is he not very good at the “Art of the Deal”?

We will see, you have 2 strikes left before you are out President Trump.
