Greater Battle Creek area law enforcement agencies are again joining forces this year to help make the upcoming holidays a bit brighter for dozens of area kids who could use a lift up. A fund raiser for the program is set for tonight - an all you can eat spaghetti dinner at the Emmett Township Public Safety Department offices at 617 Cliff St from 5-7 pm.

Virtually every law enforcement department in the area is involved in the Calhoun County Shop With A Cop program. A list of children throughout the Calhoun County area is being provided by the Department of Human Services to program administrators.

The kids will be invited to participate in a special Christmas shopping event in mid - December. The day starts with the children meeting the officers, deputies, or troopers, they'll be partnered with. Then it's a bus trip to a local Walmart. The bus gets a police escort with lights flashing and sirens blaring. The kids each get a gift card and will be helped to shop for gifts by their friends in uniform. When the shopping is complete the group returns back through town for a pizza party with their parents and new friends. The fun includes gift wrapping and souvenir photographs, and possibly a visit from jolly St.Nick.
