Battle Creek Crosswalks To Be Painted For Upcoming Pride Festival
A city contractor will be painting crosswalks at the intersection of Capital Ave. NE and VanBuren St. E beginning on Monday morning. With the help and support of the City of Battle Creek and the City Manager's office, on Monday July 8th beginning at 7 a.m., Ace Parking Lot Striping of Plainwell will be painting the crosswalks at the intersections of Capital Ave NE and Van Buren St. in a rainbow pattern for the upcoming Pride Festival events from July 18th through 21st. The work is scheduled to be completed by 7 p.m. Monday, weather permitting.
The crosswalks will serve as visual symbols of both the city’s inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community and their impact on the city community at large.
The Rainbow Crosswalks will:
- Act a symbol of welcome and acknowledgment to the LGBTQ+ community, both those within our community as well as visitors.
- Recognize the contributions that BC Pride has made in the past ten years to the community.
- Add to the growing number of public art/murals that have been popping up across Battle Creek.
A statement from Battle Creek Pride stated they are incredibly proud and grateful for the support and partnership that the city of Battle Creek has shown.
