A 31-year-old Battle Creek man faces 20 years in jail in Branch County after a plea bargain was reached Wednesday.

The Daily Reporter in Coldwater reports that Donta Scott pleaded guilty to a charge of delivery of drugs to a police informant. Coldwater Police stated that Scott had met the informant at a drug store parking lot in February with an exchange of heroin for cash.

The Michigan State Police lab found that the .6 grams of suspected heroin was actually imported fentanyl.

Scott was arrested in May at his Coldwater apartment and was set to go off of parole at the time of his arrest from prior charges in Branch and Jackson counties in 2016 and 2007, respectively. The plea deal drops the habitual offender charge, which would have place Scott behind bars for life.

He will be sentenced September 16th.
