Two concerns for Battle Creek commuters for today. The left lane of eastbound I-94 at Beadle Lake Road will be closed and a power outage at the traffic light at West Columbia Avenue and South LaVista Boulevard will cause headaches for drivers in the Battle Creek area today (Thursday September 12th).

The left lane of eastbound I-94 will be closed between Beadle Lake Road Exit 100 and 11 Mile Road Exit 104 in Battle Creek, Calhoun County today (Thursday September 12th) from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The closure is needed for crews to repair damage caused by a crash into the Kalamazoo River bridge barrier at Mile Marker 102.2.

The City of Battle Creek and the Battle Creek Police Department says the power is out to the traffic signal at West Columbia Avenue and South LaVista Boulevard and is expected to remain out until 6:00 p.m.

Consumers Energy is aware of the issue, and will be making repairs. However, the light is not expected to be back on until around 6 p.m. today. The city asked drivers to please treat the intersection as a four-way stop and to use extra caution. If at all possible, avoid the area all together. Columbia is managed by MDOT and, per their requirements, the city of Battle Creek cannot place a generator or stop signs at the intersection.
