Great Day at Battle Creek’s City Fair
It was a perfect day as the City of Battle Creek's third annual City Fair happened at Festival Market Square.
Staff from most of the City's departments were on hand to meet people and answer questions and have some fun. By 10:30am there were quite a few people downtown enjoying the day.
The Battle Creek Farmers Market was open too, and the blueberries are fantastic! There was even a dunk tank, so we had to leave before we were pressed into service.
City Manager Rebecca Fluery and Police Chief Jim Blocker were there to lead the troops.
Highlights of the City Fair:
The Water Division fire hydrant assembly demonstration. Team Battle Creek has the state champion team for quickest hydrant assembly – Hydrant Hysteria is a competition at American Water Works Association conferences. The crew put the hydrant together at 10am in one minute and eighteen seconds!
The Battle Creek Fire Department smoke trailer was there to show people how to exit their home in case of a fire.
There were some pretty impressive looking city vehicles – from the Airport and Public Works, among others – on display on Jackson Street, adjacent to Festival Market Square.

Golfers could practice their golf swing with an inflatable from The First Tee of Battle Creek. Citizens left their mark by painting on a 12-foot snow plow blade, attached to one of the City's new snow plows!
