Kalamazoo County’s Healthy Babies Healthy Start Program renews its focus on assisting and aiding fathers and families in the Kalamazoo County Community through a new partnership with Kevin Lavender, Jr. of Truth Tone Records in support of the Fatherhood Support Network.

Only a few months in, the Fatherhood Support Network is already making a difference in the lives of Kalamazoo families.  With community support a consistent core group of men have been committed to spreading the positive message about active and engaged fathers.  The group is coordinated and led by Mr. Lavender, a single father himself, who states that the “work will be to continue assessing the needs of fathers and to provide action oriented discussion, activities, and events who’s aim is to empower men to become and/or remain engaged in their child’s lives as well as to be leaders within the community.”

Over the next several months the Fatherhood Support Network will work to spread its voice to more arenas and avenues in our community.  You will see campaigns that have to do with promoting positive male imagery and supporting fathers as role models as well as focus groups to identify needs specific to men and fathers.  The Fatherhood Support Network is open to all men in Kalamazoo County.

Upcoming Network events:

  • Thursday, February 4, 2016 – Fatherhood Support Network Meeting, to be held at the United Way Offices (709 S. Westnedge Ave., Kalamazoo, 49007)

  • Saturday, March 5, 2016 – Fatherhood Celebration Event
