Late Game Fireworks Do The Trick
The Detroit Tigers are making the most out of their six-game, home stand. Tiger bats slowed down for most of Sunday afternoon, but they still had enough in them to complete the home series sweep of the Chicago White Sox. Justin Verlander would leave the game early, in the 3rd, due to tightness in his right groin. Justin was struggling a bit with 72 pitches over two-plus innings, and the Sox would load the bases twice.. Justin still limited White Sox scoring to 2, on 6 hits, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.
J.D. Martinez would cut the Sox lead in half in the 4th, with a home run to left. Tiger bats were back at it again in the 6th. The Tigers would send eight men to the plate, and score three for the 4-2 lead. However, the Sox would return the favor in the 8th. After a 1-2-3, 7th inning for Alex Wilson, he would give up three doubles to Sox hitters in the 8th, and the Sox would tie the game. The Sox were threatening again in the Top of the 9th, with two men on. However, Sanchez would ground into a double play, to keep the Sox off the board, and send the game to the bottom of the 9th.
Justin Upton took over in the 9th, as the story of Sunday’s game. In walk off fashion, his three home run shot to left would deliver the 7-4 win. With the win, the Tigers have made it four straight and have climbed back to the .500 mark. The Tigers have the day off on Monday. They host the first of three versus the LA Angels, Tuesday night. Daniel Norris(2-3 4.47 ERA) will take the mound against Angels’ starter Jesse Chavez(4-6 4.68 ERA). Our coverage begins at 6:45, Tuesday night on 95.3 WBCK.
