Battle Creek Man Injured After Fiery Three-Vehicle Crash South of Hastings
A crash in Barry County Monday afternoon sent one man to the hospital and caused two vehicles to go up in flames.
WOOD-TV reports that the incident happened around 1:30pm Monday on M-37 near McGlynn Rd, just south of Hastings. At this time, police believe that an SUV travelling northbound was stopped in the roadway, attempting to turn left onto a private drive.
A cargo van wasn’t able to stop in time and hit the back of the SUV, and then entered the southbound lane and hit a Semi-truck. The semi-truck and van caught fire and shut down the roadway for a few hours, although both drivers were able to get out before the fires started.
The SUV driver, a 59-year-old Dowling man and his wife, and 46-year-old semi-truck driver from Morley were both uninjured, while the 30-year-old Battle Creek man driving the cargo van was taken to the hospital. While he was hospitalized, authorities say he was conscious and alert when first responders arrived.
The crash remains under investigation.
