Battle Creek's Arcadia Brewing Company and Territorial Brewing Company are among more than 30 restaurants participating in Thursday's annual "Dining Out for Life" event. Participating restaurants are donating 25% or more of Thursday's receipts to CARES (Community AIDS Resource and Education Services), an 11-county non-profit charged with helping minimize the effects of HIV/AIDS in southwest Michigan.

The Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) estimates more than 5,000 people contract HIV daily. CARES tells WBCK that often is because - in spite of groundbreaking medical advancements that essentially render the disease inactive via medications - stigma keeps many from seeking life-saving treatment.

CARES works in southwest Michigan - including in Calhoun County - to minimize the spread and effects of HIV. "Dining Out for Life" is an easy way to support the effort - just eat out at one of the participating restaurants!

Hear CARES Executive Director Kelly Doyle discuss DOFL, as well as the current HIV/AIDS picture.

Hear The Richard Piet Show weekday mornings from 5:30-9 on WBCK.
