The National Weather Service says at least one tornado touched down Thursday evening in Mid-Michigan. MLive reports that authorities in Shiawassee County confirmed damage was caused to dozens of homes and thousands lost power during the accompanying storms. No injuries were reported.

The tornado developed between Corunna and Bancroft before touching down at 7:03 pm in the small community of Vernon, about 20 miles southwest of Flint. Officials say the same tornado then touched down again in nearby Durand at about 7:05 p.m. Altogether, Michigan State Police say roughly 70 homes and businesses were damaged by the twister.

Along with the tornado, severe thunderstorms also moved through nearby Genesee County, where a mobile home park was damaged. Weather service officials say an unconfirmed tornado reportedly touched down nearby in the Flushing area at 7:12 p.m.

The National Weather Service will be examining the damage to determine the strength of the tornado on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

Other areas of Southern Michigan also saw severe thunderstorm warnings, watches, flooding, high winds and hail. A wind gust of 67 mph was reported in South Haven. Parts of Kalamazoo County were under a Severe T-storm Warning for a time Thursday as strong winds caused some damage in the Portage area as well.
