There’s still hope for the future of the Scout program’s Rota-Kiwan Reservation southwest of Kalamazoo.  Hundreds of thousands of area scouts have enjoyed camping programs there.

But a recent decision by the board of the Michigan Crossroads Council is effectively closing Rota-Kiwan, save for the potential of some day camps. Area scout leaders and parents met overnight with representatives of the Council and the board to look for a potential way to keep Rota-Kiwan going. No promises are coming from the Council. But the local scout leaders are optimistic they can develop a plan to keep Rota-Kiwan open.

A council spokesman tells WWMT there are no plans to sell the camp but it’s future remains undecided. SW Michigan scout leaders and parents plan to meet again on their own this Sunday in Portage to map out the next steps.
