Are These the Best and Worst Uniforms in Lions History?

The Detroit Lions unveiled new uniforms for the 2024 season and the fanbase seems to love them. Soon, we'll see the Lions return to Ford Field with uniforms honoring the past as the team surges to heights we've never seen before as a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

The Lions were one of four NFL teams to overhaul their uniforms this year along with the New York Jets, Houston Texans and Denver Broncos. Many football fans seemed to really dislike the Broncos' new threads, which is a feeling the Lions have felt in the past.

While we wait for the Lions to debut their new look on the field, it's worth asking which uniforms in team history are the best, and which are the worst.

YardBarker recently took a stab at answering the question for all 32 teams. They opted for the Lions home uniforms from 1982-2001 as the best while the black throwbacks from 2005-07 were considered the worst.

It's hard to argue with the classic Lions home uniforms as the best. The franchise is returning to that look with a modern take for a reason, and it's certainly a welcome change.

However, the black alternates being the worst might be a stretch. After all, head coach Dan Campbell wanted them back after wearing them in his playing days, and he got his wish.

I'd argue the Matthew Stafford-era uniforms are likely the worst. While I liked them when they were first introduced, they did not age well, making every player look bulky and some numbers being a bit hard to read.

In the same vein, though, the most recent uniforms struggled with numbers as well, particularly the home uniforms which would have looked much better with white numbers instead of silver.

While those were rough, the 2023 alternates sporting a chrome-blue helmet and all-grey jerseys and pants probably take the cake. While most fans liked the new helmet with a retro logo, it clashed hard with the grey pajama threads.
