Police Say Driver In Train Collision Went Around Barrier

Authorities say it appears that the van that was hit by an Amtrak in the Kalamazoo area yesterday had been driven around the crossing gates, leading up to the collision and the deaths of the three people inside.

It happened at around 4:30 on 11^th Street in Oshtemo.  The wreckage of the vehicle was pushed for about a mile before the train could be stopped.

No one on board the train was reported as injured.
