The Battle Creek Police responded to a shots fired call Monday morning resulting in one person being injured and another dead.

Officers reported to the first block of Lathrop Avenue around 6:30am for the initial report of a woman being shot in the leg inside of the home. A man was also reported to be outside the home with a gun. Two other adults were also in the home at the time.

When they arrived they found the man, reported to be a 21-year-old originally from Battle Creek, unresponsive inside a car. Authorities believe that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The 39-year-old Illinois woman was taken to an area hospital where she listed in stable condition.

Investigators say that the two people involved were a married couple that moved to Battle Creek from Illinois. From witnesses on the scene, they believe that an argument had led to the incident.

Authorities also remind residents that without proper tools and support, incidents like this may occur. There are many emergency and non-emergency counseling services in the area that are available to help.
