A free conference will be taking place next week to help educate the community about elder abuse.

The Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department says that on June 15, the “Safe, Sound & Secure” conference will coincide with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and will focus on the dangers of financial scams and exploitation.

Speakers will include Sheriff Richard Fuller and Detective Thomas Holcomb. Detective Holcomb is currently the Financial Fraud Investigator for the Elder Justice Initiative for the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan, and has 32 years of law enforcement experience.

The conference will take place from 8:30am to 12pm at the Kalamazoo First Assembly Church, located at 5550 Oakland Dr. in Portage.
