Four Things Rep. Dave Maturen Is Watching in Michigan House
Rep. Dave Maturen (R-Brady Township) tells 95.3 WBCK he is focused on several issues currently in front of the Michigan House of Representatives.
- The Trump Administration's proposed cuts to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. Maturen is decrying the suggested cut, as a member of the Great Lakes Legislative Caucus. The GLRI website indicates their initiative as including efforts to "strategically target the biggest threats to the Great Lakes ecosystem and to accelerate progress toward long term goals for this important ecosystem."
- Efforts to roll back Michigan's income tax rate last year did not advance, but Maturen is watching for potential efforts to re-introduce it. Maturen voted against the measure since, he tells 95.3 WBCK, the proposal called for tax cuts without any substantive detail about what would be cut.
- A proposal to expand the Freedom of Information Act to the executive and legislative branches in Michigan - at least in part, with the Legislative Open Records Act - passed the House last week.
- Maturen hoped to re-introduce his "dark stores" bill this week, which passed the House in the last session, but was not taken up by the Michigan Senate.
