Michigan Beats Ohio State

So you want to hear the good news or the bad news first?

SLet us start off with the bad news, U.S. News and World Report recently published a report of their ranking of the 50 states in America. U.S. News compiled its rankings by using individual rankings in health care, education, crime and corrections, infrastructure, opportunity, economy and government.

Michigan ranked 33rd in their report, now again remember that is the bad news. The good news is the state of Ohio ranked 35th. Well at least we can beat Ohio State at something, I am looking at you U of M.

In the individual categories the state of Michigan ranked as follows:

• Health care No. 34
• Education No. 42
• Infrastructure No. 41
• Economy No. 28
• Government No. 22

According to U.S. News:

The Best States ranking of U.S. states draws on thousands of data points to measure how well states are performing for their citizens. In addition to health care and education, the metrics take into account a state's economy, the opportunity it offers people, its roads, bridges, internet and other infrastructure, its public safety and the integrity and health of state government.

 

More weight was accorded to some state measures than others, based on a survey of what matters most to people. Health care and education were weighted most heavily. Then came the opportunity states offer their citizens, their crime & corrections and infrastructure. State economies followed closely in weighting, followed by measures of government administration.

By the way Massachusetts came in first with a No. 2 ranking in health care and the top spot in education. Massachusetts was followed by New Hampshire, Minnesota, North Dakota and Washington to round out the top five, respectively.

Who came in last, well that was the state of....

Louisiana with its top ranking coming in the infrastructure category at 39th.
