Michigan Democrat Senator and a Northern Border?
Michigan Demorcrat U.S. Senator Gary Peters, a member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, is in favor of the bipartisan Northern Border Security Review Act. This was legislation that was introduced last year.
This is legislation would require a “comprehensive examination of how to strengthen American security at the Northern Border with Canada, protect Michigan’s ports and prevent human trafficking”.
In a statement released by Senator Peters office included the following statement from Senator Peters:
The Northern Border is critical to our economy, allowing goods and travelers through some of the busiest border crossings in the nation. This bipartisan bill will help protect the Northern Border and prevent criminal activity like human trafficking as we work to promote more efficient trade and travel to help grow our economy.
Do you find it a bit hypocritical that Democrat Senator Peters is in favor of border control of our northern border but is not in favor of the same border control of our southern border?
I do.
According to his statement The United States Northern Border is 5,500 miles long and has 120 border crossings ranging from major exchanges to small and rural crossings. Did you know that Michigan has the second longest section of the border behind Alaska, measuring 721 miles? Also Michigan is has two of the busiest Northern Border crossings—the Detroit-Windsor Crossing and the Port Huron-Sarnia Crossing, where approximately 300,000 people crossing the border daily and represent the largest flow of people in the world.
How can he be so concerned with our northern border and the human trafficking that he and many others say is occurring but not as concerned about the human and drug trafficking that is occurring on our southern border?
I know, it is all about politics and less about worrying about the human trafficking that we know is occurring on our southern border. This is what is wrong with our politics today, it is about politics and not about us Americans and our safety and jobs.
I find it quite hypocritical when politicians have these types of stances and it makes it difficult if not impossible for an intelligent person to believe anything else these politicians stand for or say they are concerned about. This is why we need to weed out these hypocritical politicians, and I did pick the word “weed” purposefully.
As Americans we are facing many major issues these days and we do not need politicians who attempt to play games for their own political advancement. We will never truly attempt to solve the major problems facing us Americans with this type of leadership.
We now know what we must do as Michiganders when Senator Peters is back up for re-election in 2020.
