One of the main roads between Battle Creek and Marshall was shut down due to an accident Thursday afternoon.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the corner of Michigan Avenue (M-96) and 13 Mile Road just after 1pm. The initial call was made after the accident occurred between an SUV and a motorcycle.

Authorities believe the SUV, driven by a 45-year-old Battle Creek woman was westbound on Michigan Avenue attempting to turn left. As she attempted to turn, she struck the motorcycle, driven by a 68-year-old Battle Creek man. He was taken to Ascension Health in Kalamazoo for non-life threatening injuries.

The woman was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated and is being held pending arraignment.

The Huron Band of Potawatomi Tribal Police, Marshall Township Fire Department, Marshall Firefighters Ambulance Authority, Michigan State Police and Calhoun County Road Commission assisted at the scene.
