#3 MSU beat #5 Notre Dame 81-63 on Thursday night in East Lansing.  Josh Langford and Cassius Winston led the Spartans with 17 each.  Winston added five rebounds and 7 assists. Miles Bridges had 14 and led MSU in rebounds with 6.  Nick Ward added 12 points and 5 rebounds.  MSU led Notre Dame by 20 points at the half.  The Spartans have won five straight, including a rout against then-No. 9 North Carolina, since losing to top-ranked Duke.  MSU will host Nebraska on Sunday at the Breslin Center.

The Michigan Wolverines host Indiana on Saturday at Crisler Center in Ann Arbor.

Women’s College Basketball

CMU beat Aquinas 96-47 in women’s basketball.

WMU’s women’s team beat Olivet College, 86-37.

Red Wings

Montreal beat the Red Wings, 6-3 Thursday at Little Caesar’s Arena. The Wings had a 2-1 lead after one period.  Anthony Mantha had a goal and an assist to lead the Red Wings. But the Canadiens scored three unanswered goals in the second.  Brendan Gallagher scored twice.  The two teams play again Saturday in Montreal.

Thursday Night Football

Dallas beat the Washington Redskins, 38-14.   Dak Prescott threw for two touchdowns, including a 13-yard toss to Dez Bryant that sparked the Cowboys' 21-point fourth quarter. It was Bryant's 72nd career TD reception with Dallas, breaking the franchise record set by Bob Hayes.

Former Redskin Alfred Morris finished with 127 yards rushing and scored on a one-yard plunge to put Dallas ahead 31-14 with 4:59 remaining.

Pistons

The Pistons will play in Washington tonight.  Detroit is 14-6 and second in the Eastern Conference, and first in the Central division.  The Wizards are 11-10 and in eighth place in the Conference.

Cleveland beat Atlanta for their 10th straight win.  Their franchise record is 13.

Big 10 Football Championship

Ohio State and Wisconsin square off Saturday in the Big Ten Championship game in Indianapolis. Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett had minor knee surgery, but should be ready to play against the Badgers.

Conference Playoffs

Georgia seeks revenge against Auburn in the Southeastern Conference championship game with a playoff berth on the line. Oklahoma figures to earn a playoff spot as well if it beats TCU for a second time this season in the Big 12 championship game.

Big 10 Awards

Penn State running back Saquon Barkley has been named offensive player of the year in the Big Ten and Iowa linebacker Josey Jewell is defensive player of the year. The choices were made by a panel of coaches and media members. Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor is freshman of the year and the Badgers' Paul Chryst is coach of the year.

Lions

The Lions play this Sunday in Baltimore against the Ravens.  They still have games against the Bucs, Bears, Bengals and Packers.

Tigers

Two Tigers minor league free-agents have left the organization. Outfielder-pitcher Anthony Gose has signed a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers.  Gose, obtained from the Blue Jays for second baseman Devon Travis, never hit with the Tigers, got into a major altercation in Toledo with Lloyd McClendon, and then tried pitching.  He was shut down with an elbow injury.

Also departing the Tigers is one-time prized prospect Steven Moya who has signed a contract to play in Japan.

The Tigers had high hopes for both players at one time.

 

Another Minnesota Player Leaves

Minnesota redshirt sophomore linebacker Jaylen Waters is the latest to announce his departure from Coach P.J. Fleck’s team. Waters will transfer to another school. Waters had seven tackles in 10 games for the Gophers in 2017. He's the 13th scholarship player from the 2015 recruiting class to leave the team.

Golf

Tiger Woods is within three shots of the lead following the opening round of his first tournament since a 10-month layoff following his fourth back surgery.

Woods shot a 3-under 69 to begin the Hero World Challenge at Nassau.

Tommy Fleetwood is the leader at 6 under, one shot ahead of Rickie Fowler and Matt Kuchar.
