#1 Duke beat #2 MSU 88-81Tuesday night at Chicago in the Champions Classic.  Grayson Allen scored a career-high 37 points for Duke.  Allen made five 3-pointers and scored 23 points in the second half.   The Blue Devils lost Marvin Bagley III to an eye injury midway through the first half.   In 22 years, Coach Tom Izzo is now 1-11 in his career against Duke and Mike Krzyzewski.  Coach Izzo said he was "embarrassed" by the fact that Duke outrebounded Michigan State, 46-34, and that it pulled down 25 offensive rebounds.  Miles Bridges, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Nick Ward each scored 19 points for the Spartans, who blocked 12 shots and shot 51 percent from the floor.   MSU hosts Stony Brook this Sunday at 4pm.

WMU hosts Tulsa on Wednesday night.  Michigan hosts Southern Miss on Thursday.

Volleyball

St. Philip lost to defending state champion and top-ranked Plymouth Christian Academy 3-1 last night in a Class D state quarterfinal.

Bronson beat Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central 3-1. Sophomore Keona Salesman had 25 kills and seven digs.  Bronson faces eighth-ranked Calumet in a rematch of last year's state semifinal on Friday at Kellogg Arena.

CMU Wins

Shane Morris threw two touchdown passes, including a 53-yarder to Corey Willis in the fourth quarter, and Central Michigan defeated Kent State 42-23. The Golden Flashes had rallied to pull within 5 early in the fourth quarter.

WMU plays at Northern Illinois tonight. They play at Toledo a week from Friday.

 Big 10 Football

This Saturday, MSU hosts Maryland.  It’s Senior Day at Spartan Stadium.   The Terrapins have lost five of their last six games entering Saturday's trip to East Lansing. Maryland needs to upset the Spartans to maintain its postseason hopes. #19 Michigan has won three straight and have their toughest game so far at Wisconsin on Saturday.  The Wolverines also have Ohio State on the schedule.  Hear the Michigan-Wisconsin game at 11am on 104.9 the Edge.

High School Football Playoffs

Harper Creek plays Muskegon at East Kentwood on Saturday with a chance to go to the state finals on November 25th at Ford Field.  We’ll have the game on the radio this Saturday at 12:35pm on 95.3 WBCK.

College Football Playoff Rankings

Alabama is the No. 1 team in the College Football Playoff rankings.  Clemson is second, with Miami and Oklahoma joining the Tigers and Crimson Tide among the top four for the first time. Wisconsin is fifth, and Auburn climbed to sixth.

Manager of the Year

The Minnesota Twins' one-year turnaround has led Paul Molitor to be named the AL Manager of the Year.  Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona finished second in the balloting, one spot ahead of Houston's A.J. Hinch.

Torey Lovullo is the NL Manager of the Year after guiding the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 93-69 record and a wild-card berth in his first year at the helm. Dave Roberts of the pennant-winning Los Angeles Dodgers was second, and Colorado's Bud Black was third.

Lions

The Lions head to Chicago this Sunday following their win over Cleveland.   The Detroit Lions have signed defensive end George Johnson and receiver Jace Billingsley.  Detroit released defensive end Jacquies Smith and receiver Jared Abbrederis to make room for the additions.   The Minnesota Vikings lead the division at 7-2.  The Lions and Packers are 5-4.

Stanton Hurt

Quarterback Drew Stanton's knee injury could clear the way for Blaine Gabbert to make his debut for the Arizona Cardinals Sunday against the Texans in Houston.

Stanton sprained a knee early in Thursday’s loss to Seattle but managed to stay in the game. He has started two games since Carson Palmer was lost for the season with a broken left arm.

KCC’s Men’s basketball team plays at Henry Ford Community College last night.
