Sports: Griffins Head Home Even at 1; Cavs finally Lose
The Grand Rapids Griffins lost Game 2 Sunday in San Jose, 4-2. Grand Rapids penalties led to three power play goals. The Griffins beat San Jose 3-1 on Saturday in game 1. Game 3 is Wednesday in Grand Rapids.
NHL Playoffs
The Pittsburgh Penguins can clinch the Eastern Conference final with a win in Ottawa on Tuesday. Pittsburgh scored four goals in the first period on Sunday, and beat the Senators 7-0.
The Nashville Predators beat the Ducks 3-1 in Anaheim Saturday to take a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference finals. Game six is tonight in Nashville.
World Hockey
Sweden beat Canada in a shootout to win the World Hockey Championship. Russia beat Finland for the bronze.
NBA Playoffs
The Cleveland Cavaliers finally lost a playoff game, falling 111-108 to the Boston Celtics. Avery Bradley's 3-pointer finally fell in with less than a second left. Bradley's shot from the left wing bounced on the rim four times before going in. The Celtics trailed by 21 in the third quarter. The Cavs are up 2-1 and host game 4 on Tuesday.
Golden State leads San Antonio three games to none in the Western Conference Finals and can finish off the Spurs tonight in San Antonio.
NASCAR
Kyle Busch won Saturday’s NASCAR All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
PGA
Billy Horschel sank a par putt on the first playoff hole to beat Jason Day and win the AT&T Byron Nelson Classic near Dallas on Sunday. Horschel fired a 1-under 69 in the final day.
Lexi Thompson won the LPGA's Kingsmill Championship.
Preakness
It was the 142nd Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, and a photo finish. Cloud Computing was the winner.
A Boxer's Uncle Sucker Punches His Opponent After the Fight
Flint Michigan super middleweight boxer Andre Dirrell won his fight on Saturday after the other guy got disqualified for hitting him after the bell. Venezuelan boxer Jose Uzcategui apologized after the fight, and everything seemed okay. But then Dirrell's Uncle walked up and sucker punched him hard. The uncle, Leon Lawson, might be facing assault charges.
KCC Baseball
The KCC Bruins baseball team lost to Cuyahoga Community College at the National Junior College Tournament at Bailey Park. With the 14-4 loss, the Bruins season came to an end. Cuyahoga lost to Sinclair Community college, who then beat LCC to force a final showdown today between Sinclair and Lansing. That game is at noon at Davenport University’s field. The winner heads to the NJCAA Division II World Series in Oklahoma, which starts a week from Saturday.
Tigers
The Tigers lost to the Texas Rangers 5-2 on the ESPN Sunday night game. With the loss, the Tigers drop the series, 2-1. They’re still in third place in the Central Division, two games out of first. Both teams scored single runs in the first two innings. The Rangers pulled ahead 4-2 on home runs in the fifth and sixth against Matt Boyd. Boyd gave up four runs on 12 hits and left with one out in the sixth. Texas added an insurance run in the 8th off Blaine Hardy. Miguel Cabrera had three of the Tigers’ 7 hits. The Tigers now hit the road for 11 games in 10 days, and start in Houston tonight. The Astros have the best record in baseball. Michael Fulmer will go for his sixth win for the Tigers.
