The Cleveland Indians rallied for a 10-inning win in beating the Royals 3-2 to extend their Major League record of wins to 22.  That passes the 1935 Cubs’ mark of 21, and clinches a playoff spot for the Indians.  Their magic number to clinch the Central division is three.  The Red Sox lead the Yankees by three games in the East after both teams won on Thursday.  The only other race in baseball is the NL Central, where the Cubs lead the Cardinals and Brewers by 3 games.

The Nationals and Dodgers have already clinched their divisions and the Astros could clinch on Sunday.

Tigers Blown Out

The Tigers were blown out by the White Sox in Detroit on Thursday, 17-7, to open a four-game weekend series with the Chicago White Sox.   It's the sixth straight loss for the Tigers and 14th defeat in their last 20 games. Former Tiger outfielder Avisail Garcia crushed Detroit with a 5-for-5 day and drove in seven runs.

It was a 25-hit afternoon for the White Sox.  The Tigers had a few highlights of their own smacking four solo homers. Miguel Cabrera (16) and Nicholas Castellanos (22) each had two hits on the afternoon including their round-trippers.  Jeimer Candelario also added two hits, including his first homer with the Tigers following a mid-season trade with the Chicago Cubs.  Ian Kinsler added his 18th homer in the ninth inning.  Chad Bell fell to 0-3 on the season in his third career start, allowing six runs in his 3 1/3 innings. Eight Tiger pitchers were used on the afternoon.  The Tigers and White Sox return to action Friday night in the second game of the series. Anibal Sanchez (3-4, 7.43 ERA) gets the start for Detroit.   We’ll join the game after High School Football tonight on 95.3 WBCK!
