The Lions beat the Bears in Chicago on Sunday 27-24.  The Lions were down 10-0 in the second quarter, before a fumble recovery led to their first score.   But the bears came right back with a score to lead 17-7.  But five minutes before the half, Matthew Stafford got it going, throwing a touchdown pass to Marvin Jones.  Stafford hit Ameer Abdullah for another touchdown pass just before the half and the Lions led 21-17. Matt Prater hit two fourth quarter field goals, and that was enough, as the Lions won it 27-24. The Bears' Connor Barth missed a 46 yarder with 8 seconds left.  Stafford was 21 of 31 for 299 yards and two touchdowns.  He didn’t throw an interception and was sacked three times.  Detroit is alone in second place, after the Packers lost.  The Vikings won again, and lead the Central Division with an 8-2 record.  The Lions will play the Vikings on Thanksgiving Day at 12:30pm at Ford Field.

College Basketball

MSU beat Stony Brook 93-71Sunday at the Breslin Center.  Nick Ward led the Spartans with 22 points and 11 rebounds.  Josh Langford had 19.  MSU star Miles Bridges had 20, but left the game with a sprained ankle near the end of the game. MSU is off until Thursday, when they take on DePaul at Portland in the PK80 Tourney.  Friday, MSU will take on either Connecticut or Oregon in the tourney, which continues thru Sunday.

WMU Loses

South Carolina beat Western Michigan 79-66 in Sunday's fifth-place game at the relocated Puerto Rico Tip-Off.  Thomas Wilder scored 15 points to lead Western Michigan (2-3), which committed 22 turnovers that led to 28 points for the Gamecocks. It was the second time the Gamecocks had beaten Western Michigan this week.  The Broncos host Northwood on Saturday.  Be listening for your chance to win tickets.

Red Wings

The Red Wings lost to the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 in overtime on Sunday night at Little Caesar’s Arena.  Nathan MacKinnon scored 2:55 into OT as the Avalanche overcame a late two-goal deficit. Niklas Kronwall put Detroit ahead 3-1 with 8:53 left in the third period. Andreas Anthanasiou lit the lamp late in the second for the Wings.  Next for the Wings …..They’ll host Edmonton on Wednesday night, and head to New York to play the Rangers on Friday.

Pistons

The Pistons beat the Timberwolves 100-97 at Minnesota on Sunday night.  Andre Drummond had 20 points and 16 rebounds, Tobias Harris and Avery Bradley added 18 points each.  Harris hit two free throws with 3.3 seconds remaining, and Jimmy Butler's last-second 3-point attempt rattled out to draw a loud groan from the crowd as the Pistons snapped their two-game skid.  The Pistons trailed by as many as 11.  Detroit will host Cleveland tonight.

Volleyball

Bronson’s volleyball team are the Class C State Champs.  They beat Calumet and Laingsburg at Kellogg Arena for their third straight title.

High School Football

Harper Creek fell a game short of making the State football finals, as they fell to Muskegon on Friday.

NASCAR

Martin Truex Jr. clinched his first NASCAR Cup championship Sunday by winning the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.  Truex edged fellow Toyota driver Kyle Busch in the 400-mile finale. Kevin Harvick (fourth) and Brad Keselowski (seventh) were the only other championship contenders in the field.

Truex won for the eighth time this year, continuing the most successful season of his journeyman career and giving Colorado-based Furniture Row Racing its first title.  Dale Earnhardt retired from full-time racing yesterday after the final race of the season.  Here's Dale talking to the crowd about what's next.

AP Football Poll

The top nine teams in The Associated Press college football poll have held onto their spots. Alabama remains No. 1, Miami is No. 2, Oklahoma is No. 3, Clemson is No. 4 and Wisconsin is No. 5. Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame and TCU round out the top 10. There was some shuffling at the bottom of the rankings, with Michigan, North Carolina State and West Virginia dropping out after losses. Northwestern and Boise State moved into the Top 25 for the first time this season.
