MSU beat Ohio State, 74-66 last night in East Lansing. Alvin Ellis was averaging just six points per game, but scored 15 of his 18 points with a 3-point barrage in the first half. Myles Bridges had 17 points and 11 rebounds. Nick Ward scored 15 for Michigan State.  The Spartans have won four of five to move to 16-10, 8-5 Big Ten. WMU beat Bowling Green, 89-79 last night in Kalamazoo.  Thomas Wilder went off for a career-high 38 points — 31 after halftime — as the Broncos continue a late-season surge.

Western Michigan (10-15, 6-7 Mid-American Conference) has won three straight and four of five, rebounding from a four-game losing streak.

Tucker Haymond, 16 points and 10 rebounds, knocked down a jump shot to break a 63-63 tie with 8:07 to play, sparking a 9-0 run for the Broncos over the next two minutes.

Wilder finished 11 of 17 from the floor and 15-for-15 shooting at the line.

Buffalo beat CMU, 99-93.

Ohio beat EMU, 79-71.

Pistons

The Pistons host the Dallas Mavericks tonight.

Red Wings

The Wings are home to play the St. Louis Blues tonight.  St. Louis will be without one of their best scorers, as forward Paul Stastny has been placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.

MSU Names Suspended Football Staff Member

Michigan State has identified a suspended member of the football staff who specializes in mentoring athletes. University spokesman Jason Cody says Curtis Blackwell was suspended with pay. He wouldn't offer any other details Tuesday or say whether Blackwell is the staff member who was suspended last week as part of an investigation into an alleged sexual assault involving three players.

Wrestling
Pennfield heads to Regionals this Wednesday at Dundee High School against Michigan Center.

Harper Creek (17-10) advances to the February 15th regional at Stevensville Lakeshore High School, where it will face Coldwater.

Climax-Scotts/Martin will wrestle Bangor at Springport, and Springport goes against Athens.
