The Pistons snapped a three-game losing streak with a 102-97 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night.  Tobias Harris scored 23 points and hit a decisive 3-pointer with 30.5 seconds to play.  Marcus Morris scored 23 points and Andre Drummond had 15 points and 17 rebounds for the Pistons.   Detroit hadn’t won at Staples Center in nine years.  The Lakers have lost 20 of 25 since their 10-10 start under new Coach Luke Walton.  The Pistons won without two injured starters.   Kentavious Caldwell-Pope missed his second straight game with a strained rotator cuff.  Jon Leuer missed his fourth straight game with a sore right knee.  The Pistons host the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.

Men’s College Basketball

MSU lost to Ohio State on Sunday afternoon, 72-67 for the Buckeyes' first Big Ten win this season.    A layup by Miles Bridges pulled Michigan State to 70-67 with 20 seconds left. But Kam Williams converted a free throw for a four-point lead and Josh Langford missed a 3-pointer.   Bridges paced Michigan State with 24 points on 9-for-12 shooting. Coach Tom Izzo will talk about it tonight at 7 on the Tom Izzo Show on WBCK.  MSU is off until Saturday when they play at Indiana. (3pm on WBCK).

KCC Loses

KCC lost to Mid-Michigan Community College, 88-71.  KCC is 3-11 and 0-4 in Conference play.

The KCC Women’s team also lost to Mid-Michigan, 71-59 and are also 0-4 in the conference.

Red Wings

The Red Wings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3 on Saturday night.   Andreas Athanasiou went end to end with the puck, split defenders and scored early in the third period, giving the Detroit Red Wings their first lead, and goalie Jared Coreau a win in his first home start.  The Wings host the Montreal Canadians today in a Monday afternoon game.

WMU Hockey

It’s a big weekend for the #14 ranked Bronco Hockey team as they split with the #1 team in the country, Denver.  The Broncos won 3-0 on Friday, but dropped the Saturday game, 7-2.

NFL Playoffs

The Green Bay Packers edged the NFC top seed Dallas Cowboys 34-31 to send the Packers to the NFC championship next Sunday against Atlanta.  Mason Crosby boomed a 51-yard field goal at the final gun to win it. The big play in Green Bay's game-winning drive was a 36-yard completion from Aaron Rodgers to Jared Cook on a third-and-20 situation.

Pittsburgh's Chris Boswell set an NFL postseason record with six field goals and the Pittsburgh Steelers eliminated the second-seeded Kansas City Chiefs 18-16 to reach next Sunday's AFC championship at New England.   Coach Mike Tomlin’s Steelers have won nine straight games.

WMU Names Lester new coach

Western Michigan University officially kicked off a new era of Bronco football on Saturday, introducing former quarterback Tim Lester as the Broncos' head football coach.   Lester takes over following P.J. Fleck's departure to become the head coach at the University of Minnesota.

Justin Thomas won the Sony Open with the lowest 72-hole score in PGA Tour history.

High School Basketball
