Golden State beat the San Antonio 113-111 on Sunday in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals.   Stephen Curry scored 40 points and hit a tying 3-pointer as the Warriors came back from being down 25 points.  Kawhi Leonard left in the third quarter after he re-injured his left ankle.  Game two is Tuesday at Golden State.

The Boston Celtics host Washington in game 7 tonight.  The winner of the series moves on to play Cleveland in the Eastern Conference finals.

NHL Playoffs
Nashville scored three times in the second period to beat Anaheim 5-3 in game 2 of the Conference Finals to even that series at a game each.  Game 3 is Tuesday in Nashville.

Pittsburgh will host Ottawa tonight, with the Senators up one game to none.

 

Griffins Play in Chicago

The Grand Rapids Griffins eliminated the Chicago Wolves and now move on to the AHL Western Conference Finals.  Grand Rapids plays at San Jose next Saturday night in the first of the best of seven.  Game 2 is Sunday in San Jose, and game 2 is Wednesday May 24th in Grand Rapids.

Tennis

Rafael Nadal defeated Dominic Thiem on Sunday in the Madrid Open final to win his third straight title.

PGA

South Korea's Si Woo Kim won the Players Championship.  The 21-year-old Kim had a three-shot win over Ian Poulter and Louis Oosthuizen.

Jeter’s Number Retired

Kalamazoo native Derek Jeter had his #2 retired by the Yankees---the 22nd player to have his number retired by the Bronx Bombers.

World Hockey

The United States beat Slovakia 6-1 at the hockey world championship, for their fifth straight win.  The Americans are off today, and play Russia on Tuesday. Team USA is a point ahead of Russia, which has a game today.

NASCAR

Martin Truex Jr. won the Go Bowling 400 on Saturday at Kansas Speedway.  It's his first Cup Series win of the year.  Brad Keselowski and Kevin Harvick finished second and third.  There was a scary crash when Joey Logano crashed into Danica Patrick, and they both went into the wall, and then Aric Almarola crashed into them.  Patrick and Logano were fine, but Almirola had a compression fracture in his back.

KCC Wins Baseball Conference

The KCC Bruins baseball team starts play in the NJCAA Region XII Division II Tournament on Wednesday, when they take on Macomb Community College at 11:30am at C.O. Brown Stadium.

Tigers

The Tigers lost 4-1 on Sunday in Anaheim.  Justin Verlander gave up four runs in six innings to take the loss, and is now 3-3. With seven strikeouts, Verlander passed Tommy John for 53rd place in baseball history.  The Tigers are off Monday, and start a three game series in Detroit against Baltimore.  Matt Boyd starts against the Birds on Tuesday.
