The Red Wings lost 1-0 in Buffalo.  It was the fifth straight loss for Detroit.  Benoit Pouliot scored on a rebound shot in the second period as he stuffed a wraparound behind goalie Jimmy Howard.  With just more than three minutes left in the second, goalie Robin Lehner denied Red Wings forward Martin Frk with a left pad save on a 2-on-1 chance.  He also had a big save on a Henrik Zetterberg shot late in the game.  Jimmy Howard had 31 saves in goal for the Wings.  The Sabres had never beaten Howard in regulation. The veteran goalie still has never allowed more than two goals in regulation against the Sabres.  The Red Wings play at the Tampa Bay on Thursday night in the second of a three-game road trip.

World Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers won game 1 of the World Series, 3-1 win over the Houston Astros.  Clayton Kershaw tossed seven stellar innings and Justin Turner launched a tiebreaking homer. Kershaw, the three-time Cy Young Award winner, struck out 11 and allowed only three hits, including Alex Bregman's game-tying homer in the fourth inning. L.A. took a very early lead as Chris Taylor homered on the first pitch thrown by losing pitcher Dallas Keuchel.  The 103-degree temperature at first pitch is the warmest in World Series history.  Former Tiger Curtis Granderson was left off the Dodgers’ post-season roster, as Manager Dave Roberts made room for Corey Seager and pitcher Brandon McCarthy.  Justin Verlander will start game 2 for Houston. Verlander has won all nine of his appearances since being acquired by Houston on August 31st.  The Dodgers will start left-hander Rich Hill.
