Sports: Spartans and Red Wings Win
Third-ranked Michigan State overcame its worst offensive performance of the season with a 62-52 victory over surprising Rutgers on Tuesday night. Miles Bridges scored 21 points and Jaren Jackson Jr. scored all 11 of his points in the second half and had eight of the Spartans' season-high 13 blocks. Michigan State won its seventh straight. Rutgers held the Spartans to season lows in points and shooting percentage. Michigan State will be returning home on Saturday to host Southern Utah.
Central Michigan beat Montana State 75-48 on Tuesday night for a sixth straight win.
The WMU Broncos will be hosting the Cleveland State Vikings in Kzoo Wednesday at 7pm.
RED WINGS
Red Wings snapped a seven-game slide with a 5-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night. Justin Abdelkader and Gustav Nyquist scored in a dominant first period for Detroit. Fresh off a 10-1 loss at Montreal on Saturday, the Red Wings outshot Winnipeg 16-3 in the opening period and took a 2-0 lead. They put the game away with three more goals in the third. The Red Wings next host the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.
Pistons
The Pistons end their four-game road trip in Milwaukee with the Bucks Wednesday at 8pm.
Tigers
The Detroit Tigers have agreed to terms with outfielder Leonys Martin on a $1.75 million, one-year contract. Martin , who hit .172 in 49 games last season with Seattle and the Chicago Cubs, hit over .300 at Triple A. The Tigers also announced Tuesday that they have signed four players ot minor league deals, including outfielder Jim Adduci. All will be invited to spring training.
