The Tigers broke a four-game losing streak to salvage a game in their series with the White Sox, winning 7-2 on Sunday in Detroit.   The Sox scored in the first off Jordan Zimmerman, but Justin Upton got them even with a home run in the second.  The Tigers scored four runs in the fourth and never looked back.  They added two more in the fifth.  Nick Castellanos and Alex Avila each had three hits, and Jose Iglesias knocked in three runs.  Jordan Zimmerman pitched 5 innings and gave up 3 runs on 7 hits and struck out five.  The Tigers climb back to the .500 mark on the season, going 12-12 in April.  Miguel Cabrera is expected to return for the Tigers, in Tuesday’s game versus the Indians.  The Tigers start a 4-game series with Cleveland to end the 10-game home stand starting tonight.  Daniel Norris will be on the mound for the Tigers. Nats’ Rendon Knocks in 10

The Washington Nationals beat the New York Mets 23-5 on Sunday.  Anthony Rendon went 6 for 6 with two home runs and knocked in 10 runs.

KCC Baseball

The KCC Baseball team won three out of four with KVCC over the weekend and in Saturday’s game 2, 8-7 loss the Bruins lost their first and only conference game so far this season.  They are 19-1 and 30-12-2 overall and have an opportunity to clinch the Conference Championship with a win Friday at Home. 1:00pm start in Brown Stadium.

NHL Playoffs

The Nashville Predators got a 3-1 win over St. Louis in Game 3 of the second-round, Stanley Cup series.  Cody McLeod's second-period goal was the eventual game-winner, and Roman Josi had the insurance goal.  The Predators have a two-games-to-one lead in the series.  Game 4 is Tuesday in Nashville.

The Anaheim Ducks beat Edmonton 6-3.   Jakob Silfverberg scored twice.

But the Ducks trail 2-1 in the second-round NHL series with the Oilers, who host game four on Wednesday.

  • Tonight: Washington at Pittsburgh.   The Penguins lead 2-0.
  • Tuesday:  Ottawa at N.Y. Rangers.  Ottawa leads  2-0 .St. Louis at Nashville.
  • Wednesday: Washington at Pittsburgh.  Anaheim at Edmonton.

NBA Playoffs

The Boston Celtics won game 1 of their second-round NBA series, 123-111 over the Washington Wizards.   Boston had 19 3-pointers and came back from being down 17-points early in the game.  Isaiah Thomas finished with 33 points and nine assists, one day after attending his sister's funeral.   Game 2 is Tuesday in Boston.

The Utah Jazz beat the L.A. Clippers 104-91 to move on to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in seven years.  Utah starts round two at Golden State on Tuesday.

  • Houston plays at San Antonio in game one of their second round series.

NASCAR

Joey Logano won Sunday's Monster Energy Cup race at Richmond finishing ahead of teammate and runner-up Brad Keselowski.  Logano qualified fifth but started 37th after making a transmission change.

Golf

Kevin Kisner made a 95-foot chip-in for eagle on the 18th hole just in time to get him and teammate Scott Brown into a Monday playoff at the Zurich Classic.   Jonas Blixt and Cameron Smith hadn’t bogeyed a hole and it looked like they would cruise to victory before Kisner's chip-in.  They’ll finish today at TPC Louisiana.

Griffins Play Chicago on Wednesday

The Grand Rapids Griffins face Chicago in a seven-game Central Division Final starting Wednesday in Chicago.
