Sports: Tigers win Wild one; High School Week 1 Starts
The benches cleared three times, resulting in eight ejections, and the Tigers avoided a three-game sweep from the New York Yankees with a 10-6 victory.
Jose Iglesias drove in four runs on the afternoon behind a three-hit day. Justin Upton and James McCann each hit solo homers. Miguel Cabrera and Yankees catcher Austin Romine wrestled on the ground near home plate during the first of three bench-clearing altercations. Four players were hit by pitches in the game.
Michael Fulmer started and allowed five runs in six innings in the no-decision. Alex Wilson got the win in relief while Shane Greene got the final five outs for his fourth save.
The Tigers are in Chicago to play the White Sox tonight. Justin Verlander goes for his 10th win. We’ll join the game after high school football on 95.3 WBCK. Saturday’s game hits the airwaves at 6:45, and game 3 is at 1:45 Sunday. Then the Tigers head out to Colorado.

Little League World Series
Lufkin, Texas plays Greenville, North Carolina in Saturday's title game of the Little League World Series. Mexico plays Tokyo in the international championship.
KCC Volleyball
KCC’s women's volleyball season started with a win over Lake Michigan College at the old Central Fieldhouse. The Lady Bruins won 25-9, 25-15 and 25-19. Hannah Landis had 14 kills, Kameron Haley had 4 aces and 14 digs and Kealey O-Day had 28 assists. with a conference matchup against Lake Michigan College. The Fieldhouse is the Bruins' current home while the College's new Miller Physical Education Building is undergoing construction.
Palace of Auburn Hills
The final event for the Palace of Auburn Hills will be about a month from now. Palace Sports and Entertainment says a Bob Seger concert on September 23rd will end almost 30 years of service. The Pistons announced last year that the team would move to Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit.
Golf
Russell Henley has the early lead over Dustin Johnson through one round of The Northern Trust on Long Island. It’s the first of four FedEx Cup playoff events that lead to the Tour Championship with a $10 million prize.
