Sports: U of M Women to W.N.I.T. Final
The Michigan women's basketball team beat Villanova 65-61 last night in Ann Arbor to reach the WNIT finals. The Wolverines will play Georgia Tech on Saturday at 3 at Detroit Mercy. Michigan beat Georgia Tech by 40 points earlier this season in Atlanta. Michigan was led last night by Hallie Thome with 22. Katelynn Flaherty had 18. Michigan played its third consecutive game without freshman guard Kysre Gondrezick, who is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team for personal reasons.
Tigers
Justin Verlander gave up four runs on 5 hits in three innings in his final spring training start as the Tigers lost to the Phillies, 8-2 in Lakeland. Daniel Nava touched up Verlander for a three run homer in Detroit’s final home game in Lakeland this spring. Mike Pelfrey was tagged for three runs on six hits in a little over two innings of work. Miguel Cabrera, Jose Iglesias, and JaCoby Jones each had two hits. Matt Boyd goes to the mound today in Sarasota against the Orioles. The Tigers play Miami in Jupiter on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, and then head north. Opening day is Monday afternoon in Chicago against the White Sox. The Tigers still need to cut two players before Monday. They announced that they have cut veteran pitcher Mike Pelfrey today.
Red Wings
The Red Wings play at Tampa Bay tonight. They’re home to play the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday in former Coach Mike Babcock’s final game at the Joe.
Pistons
The Pistons are 3 games behind Miami and Indiana for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls are 1 ½ ahead of the Pistons. The Pistons host the Brooklyn Nets tonight. They head to Milwaukee on Friday.

Lakeview 16, Pennfield 1. Nate Jones and Gavin Rogers led the way with two hits and two RBI.
St. Philip 4, Union City 1. Ian Mullis struck out 8.
Marshall 10, Sturgis 7. Mason Griffith pitched 4 shutout innings and had three hits.

Bronson and Three Rivers split a pair. Bronson won game 2, 8-7.
Softball
Pennfield and Lakeview split; Lakeview won 11-4. The Panthers won game 2, 10-1.
Olivet swept Quincy, 12-6 and 11-6.
