The Astros lead three games to two, and can win the series with Justin Verlander on the mound tonight in L.A.  Verlander is 4-0 in post season games this year, and 11-5 in his career in the post-season.   Verlander was traded by the Tigers just minutes before the August 31st deadline, as the 34 year old hoped to have a chance at winning a World Series.   Tonight he’ll get that opportunity.  Verlander went 5-0 for the Astros in the regular season, with a microscopic 1.06 earned run average.  Tonight, Verlander goes for his 10th straight win in an Astros uniform.

Volleyball Districts

Volleyball District play began Monday and continues Wednesday for many area teams.

Lakeview beat Harper Creek, 3-0.  Juniors Sidney Schiller and Karlie Kucharczyk each had 13 kills. Chloe Baum had 33 assists.   Loy Norrix swept Battle Creek Central to end the Bearcats’ season.   Lakeview will play Loy Norrix next.

Pennfield swept Parchment and travels to play Comstock.  Marshall will play Olivet at Comstock.

Gull Lake beat Sturgis and will host Coldwater Wednesday.

Climax-Scotts beat Kalamazoo Heritage Christian 3-0.  They’ll play Martin on the road on Wednesday.

Centreville beat Union City.   Bronson swept Reading and plays their next match on the road against Centreville.

Athens beat Bellevue  St. Philip starts District play against Marshall Academy.

College Volleyball

The KCC Volleyball team plays in a Regional tournament Thursday against Glenn Oaks Community College.

Monday Night Football

The Chiefs beat the Broncos 29-19 on Monday night.

Lions

The Lions are on the road to play the Packers in Green Bay next Monday night.  Detroit is 3-4 after winning their first three.  Detroit continues to have issues near the goal line. Despite three second-half opportunities inside the Pittsburgh 10-yard line, Detroit couldn’t punch it in in a 20-15 loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday night.

Pistons

The Pistons play the Lakers tonight as they go for a west coast sweep. They beat the World Champion Golden State Warriors and undefeated LA Clippers over the weekend.

Red Wings

The Red Wings host the Phoenix Coyotes tonight at Little Caesar’s Arena.

College Basketball

The MSU Spartan basketball team will host Hillsdale College on Friday.  Be listening for your chance to win a pair of tickets.

College Football                            

The WMU Broncos host CMU on Wednesday night at Waldo Stadium.

Michigan hosts Minnesota on Saturday night.  Hear the game at 6:30pm on 104.9 the Edge.  Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh says quarterback Brandon Peters will likely make the start.  Peters led the Wolverines to a 35-14 win over Rutgers on Saturday. Harbaugh isn't picking his starter, but says there's a "51 percent," chance the redshirt freshman makes his first start against the Golden Gophers this weekend. Peters replaced fifth-year senior John O'Korn against the Scarlet Knights.

High School Football Playoffs

Harper Creek will host Stevensville-Lakeshore Friday, and we’ll have it for you on 95.3 WBCK.

Climax-Scotts will play Pittsford in the next round.  Pittsford beat the Panthers 28-14 in the regular season.

Bellevue will host Lawrence in round 2.

Delton-Kellogg plays at Watervliet this weekend.

Maple Valley is still alive and plays at Saugatuck.

Boys Soccer

The 7th ranked Coldwater's boys’ soccer will face eighth-ranked Holland on Wednesday at Portage Northern High School.
