The Battle Creek Public Schools announced on their Facebook that Tuesday afternoon, a district school bus carrying students home from the Post-Franklin and Verona Elementary Schools was struck by an object, cracking a window.

The Departments says that "attendance has exceeded expectations every year", so they are seeking donations to help purchase candy for the participants.

After 13-year-old Lakeview Middle Schooler Kaileb Cobb took his own life September 5, the spirit rocks at Lakeview High School, and at schools in the Battle Creek and Pennfield Districts, were painted with messages saying things like “stop bullying” and “in honor of Kaileb”.

Carter talks about absenteeism, new programs and how the $51 million grant is being used.

Superintendent Kim Carter accepted a 2 percent pay raise this month, with the Battle Creek School Board rating her 91 percent effective in running the district the past school year; board members praised Carter’s efforts in leading the district, including her role in making sure the district had a balanced budget.

The Calhoun County Clerk’s Office says that they now have available information including affidavits, petition forms needed to get on the November ballot and more, for all of the districts under their purview.

The local teacher’s union says that the district had $618,000 available to give teachers an annual raise this school year, after they were told last year there wasn’t any money available for raises. Instead, the union says that money was transferred to the general fund.

Voters headed to the polls in the Calhoun County Tuesday, and for the most part they voted yes.

The Battle Creek Public Schools say Thursday morning that authorities in Springfield let them know there was an active shooter situation in the area of Valley View Elementary and Springfield Middle School; as a result, the district made the call to cancel classes.

The Battle Creek Police Department says Sunday afternoon that they have determined 22-year-old Joseph Bowser was killed by a single gunshot wound to his head, sometime Friday night or early Saturday.
