A 32-year-old Springfield resident spent the night in jail following a wild series of events. It started with what county Sheriff’s Deputies report was an assault on his girlfriend.

The Michigan State Police noticed a suspect early Friday morning in Kalamazoo County, who was believed to have been involved in an armed sexual assault and kidnapping earlier that day.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says that a deputy of theirs attempted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Capital Ave. NE early morning January 24, on a vehicle that was observed to have violations of the motor vehicle code.

The chase took place Friday evening, after a vehicle fled with young women who allegedly had been shoplifting. The crash left one of those teens badly hurt.

48-year-old Trent Davis was sentenced to between 52 and 77 years in prison on charges of assault with intent to murder and felony firearm; he will also serve between 6 and 10 years in prison on other charges concurrently.
