Police Chase Leads To Crash Causing Critical Injuries In Battle Creek
A teenage girl who was involved in a crash during a police chase in the Battle Creek area last week still remains in critical condition.
The Battle Creek Enquirer says that the incident took place around 7pm Friday, where two young women were allegedly seen shoplifting over $2,000 worth of items from the Kohl’s on Harper Village Dr. The women got into a waiting car, which then sped off around responding patrol cars, leading to a chase down 6 ½ Mile Rd that at times reached speeds of 94 MPH.
The chase came to an end when the suspect vehicle failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Columbia Ave. and Main St, where it collided with a pickup truck. All of the occupants of the car, teen girls aged 15, 16, and 18, were hospitalized; two of them were released after treatment, while the 16-year-old front seat passenger from Kalamazoo remains in critical condition.
The driver of the pickup ended up seeking treatment on his own.
The crash and the alleged shoplifting remain under investigation; Emmett Township authorities say the three young women are suspects in several instances of retail theft.
