Just like two years ago when the Tigers traded right-hander Justin Verlander and Justin Upton, the team has made two deals, just before the trade deadline.   The Tigers were hoping to get some bats.  The got one.

The Tigers has sent 30 year old reliever Shane Greene to the Atlanta Braves pending the exchange of medical information, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

Greene, the All-Star closer had a break-out year in the bullpen, staying injury-free with an earned run average of 1.18 and 22 saves for a team that has only won 31 games.

In exchange for Greene, the Tigers are getting 24 year old Travis Demeritte, a power hitting 2nd baseman, left fielder and 3rd baseman.   They also reportedly are getting pitcher Joey Wentz, a 21-year-old lefty who was the 40th overall pick in 2016

And a source tells Ken Rosenthal at The Athletic that left fielder Nick Castellanos is headed to the north side of Chicago.  Castellanos is not in the line-up in this afternoon's game with the Angels.

Sources say the Cubs are sending 2017 first-round pick Alex Lange to the Tigers in the Castellanos deal. Lange is a 23 year old right-handed pitcher from LSU.   Another right handed pitching prospect, 22 year old Paul Richan, is also said to be packaged in the trade.
