A long time Battle Creek favorite, Tony's Chop Suey is closing and a new ethnic restaurant will take its place.

Established in Battle Creek in 1996, Tony's Chop Suey owners will be moving on. A friend's wife tipped me to the news on Facebook and I called to confirm. Yes, it's true the family has sold the restaurant and Tony's Chop Suey will no longer offer Happy Family, Three Princess, Cantonese Chow Mein, Moo Sue Pork, Szechuan Shrimp, Chicken Subgum, or anything else off the menu or at the buffet after April 14.

The fortune looks good for the owners as this was their decision and not the bank's. The building has been sold to new owners and I'm told you can anticipate Burmese cuisine. Perhaps you know more about exotic dishes than I do but I had no idea what this might be, so I went to the internet:

Burmese cuisine is characterised by extensive use of fish products like fish sauce and ngapi (fermented seafood). Owing to the geographic location of Myanmar, Burmese cuisine has been influenced by Chinese cuisineIndian cuisine and Thai cuisine.

While I will miss Tony's and wish them the best in their next adventure, I am excited to try mohinga, nan gyi thok, halawa and htame even if I have no idea on the pronunciation and will probably just point to the menu and ask for a #17.
