Many people love horror movies, in fact it seems like there are more horror movies being made than any other genre.

I personally am not a fan of horror movies so I do not have a dog in this fight.  A company by the name of Comparitech published a fun study that determined what the most popular Halloween/Horror movies in each state using data from IMDB and Google Trends.

They used the following Methodology:

Using IMDB’s list of top horror movies, we searched each film individually on Google Trends to find which state scored the highest. This was then the designated film for that state. If any state came up twice, we used the film that ranked higher on IMDB for popularity. If a state didn’t appear top for any of the movies, we looked at the state’s individual information for the topic “horror movies” to ascertain which movie was being increasingly searched for in the related topics section. We also omitted any film with comedy as a genre (such as Shaun of the Dead).

What was Michigan’s favorite Halloween/Horror movie, was it The Texas Chainsaw Massacre released in 1974, The Conjuring based on a true story, The Shining or some other film.

Well it was “The Ring” released in 2002.  The Ring is about a mysterious video tape that is killing off anyone who watches it. Whenever the victim watches it, the phone rings, telling them they have only one week to live. A young reporter named Rachel is investigating these events, but after she and her small son watch the tape, it becomes a race against time to find out why the tape is killing everyone and how it could be stopped.

If you click on the hot-link above you will find a really nice interactive map that allows you to click on a State and find out their favorite Halloween/Horror movie.

Have fun with it.

Do you have a different favorite horror movie.
