Michigan State Police troopers from the Marshall post arrested a 54-year-old man Monday night after a domestic dispute in Branch County.

Authorities were called to a home in Sherwood around 6pm, after a woman called from a neighbor’s home after she was assaulted.

The man, believed to be the victim’s boyfriend, had fled before troopers arrived. They would eventually find the man’s vehicle in a wooded area on Barnhart Road near Webb Road in Batavia Township.

With K-9 assistance, the man was found behind some fallen trees a quarter mile away from his vehicle. He was arrested without incident. He is being held at the Branch County Jail in Coldwater on a felonious assault charge.

The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation of the case continues. Investigators believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the incident.
