The Michigan House of Representatives voted yesterday to allow faith-based foster care and adoption agencies to turn away gay and lesbian couples seeking to adopt a child by invoking their “sincerely held religious beliefs” against homosexuality.

According to an article in the Detroit News the 3 bill legislative package passed in the Michigan house 65-44.  Unfortunately the vote was pretty much on party lines.

The democrats argued that it would be a license to discriminate due to what I believe is the democrats mistrust in all people.  The democrats as a party seems to not believe in the good inside people but only the bad.

Maybe that is why they are always so angry and depressed.

According to the article one of the bill sponsors. Rep. Andrea LaFontaine, R-Columbus Township, stated that private agencies would still remain subject to all applicable federal and state laws, and that the proposals did not apply exclusively to Christian agencies.

Also Rep. Marcia Hovey Wright, D-Muskegon, was quoted as saying lawmakers were being coerced into approving the legislation because faith-based adoption agencies threaten to get out of the business if they can’t refer couples elsewhere for religious reasons.

“Is it OK to reward this defiant behavior?” Wright asked.

I do not know Ms. Wright, your party rewards deviant behavior all the time, so apparently it is ok with the democrat party to do so, so what is the worry if the Republican Party was to do so under your theory?

The legislation now goes to the Michigan Senate, where Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof has not shown any interest in the legislation.

Do you have a problem with these proposed bills?

What are the pros and cons in your estimation?

Do “sincerely held religious beliefs” matter anymore?

Is it not better for children that these organizations stay in business to do their good work as opposed to closing due to those “religious beliefs?

Or

When you do business with the state your morals and ethics must be put aside?

Is it not better for children to have adoptive parents, regardless of their sexuality, rather than being in foster homes?

Let’s discuss this today on my show the Live with Renk show, which airs Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to noon, to let me know your thoughts at (269) 441-9595.
