HS Basketball: Panthers Power Past Beavers

The Pennfield Panthers hosted their winter carnival Friday night, but their mentality heading into the game was not all fun and games.

After going back and forth in the first quarter and into the second quarter, the Panthers would eventually take lead early in the stanza, never looking back. Pennfield would complete the regular season sweep of the Harper Creek Beavers on their home floor 69-65. The win is the second in a row for the Panthers (7-7) after falling to the Beavers each year in the last five.

Steffen Kinne and Fran Jamierson each had 18 points on the night to lead the Panthers. Grant Peterson tacked on 13 and Ron Jamierson chipped in 12 on the night.

The Beavers fall to 8-7 on the year and 6-4 in the Interstate 8. They are now in a three-way tie for second place in the conference with the Charlotte Orioles (lost to Parma Western) and the Coldwater Cardinals (won over Jackson Northwest). They now trail the conference-leading Marshall Redhawks by 2 1/2 games.

Brandon Settles scored 21 points to lead all scorers for the Beavers. Jeremiah Davis had three triples on the night in his 17 points. JaCory McNutt added 12 off the bench.
