Police in Marshall are investigating several reports of a suspicious person approaching students.

The Marshall Police Department says Tuesday that the subject was seen approaching the kids at Marshall Middle School, as well as the Marshall District Library; he had been driving a brown sedan. Authorities say they identified a 19-year-old suspect, and he has been banned from those two properties while these incidents are investigated; right now, the MPD says they are trying to determine if any criminal activity has taken place.

They ask that anyone who has had contact with this subject to contact them or to call Silent Observer.

If the man's motivation for allegedly approaching these children was ultimately sexual in nature, it would be a felony under Michigan law; the penal code says that one who "accosts, entices, or solicits a child less than 16 years of age" to commit an "immoral act", to induce or force the child into sexual intercourse, or "any other act of depravity or delinquency" is guilty of a felony that could see them serve 4 years in prison.
