The MSU Spartans get back into action on Saturday night, as they host Notre Dame in East Lansing.   It’s the 79th meeting between the two schools, but the last one for nine years.  Hear the MSU-Notre Dame game on 95.3 WBCK, Saturday night at 6:30pm.

Michigan is at Purdue.  Hear the game at 3pm on 104.9 the Edge.

WMU hosts the Wagner Seahawks this Saturday night at Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo.  That game will be broadcast on ESPN3.  Wagner College is located at Staten Island, New York.

Tigers

The skies were gloomy in Detroit, as well as the spirits of Tiger fans after their 12-1 loss to the Minnesota Twins, Thursday evening.  The Tigers were first on the board as Jeimer Candelario doubled to left-field, bringing Jose Iglesias in to score, 1-0.  The Twins came back with three runs in the 4th off Jordan Zimmerman, making it a 3-1 game.  Minnesota edged the score to 4-1 in the 5th, with a hit off from Blaine Hardy. They continued the rally in the 6th inning with three more runs off from Victor Alcantara, pushing the score to 7-1.  The Twins continued to pile on runs for the 12-1 win.  Game two is tonight in Detroit.  Daniel Norris is expected to make the start for the Tigers. We’ll join the game after high school football on 95.3 WBCK.

MLB Race

The Red Sox lead the Yankees by three games in the AL East.   The Cubs beat the Brewers 5-3 and now lead by 4 ½ in the NL Central.   In the Wild Card races, the Yankees and Diamondbacks have just about sewn up a spot, and teams are battling for the final spot in each league.  Colorado leads Milwaukee by one game and the Cardinals by 1 ½.  Minnesota has a 2 ½ game lead over the Angels and Rangers in the American League.

Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings remain winless in pre-season play, after dropping the game in Chicago, 6-1.  The Wings host their first game ever at Little Caesar’s Arena tomorrow night at 7, as the Boston Bruins come to Detroit. After tomorrow, three of the final four pre-season games will be played next week at the new building.   The regular season starts October 5th against the Wild at Little Caesar’s Arena.

Thursday Night Football

The Rams beat the 49ers 41-39 on Thursday night.

KCC Volleyball

The KCC Volleyball team beat Ancilla College in three on Thursday at the Central Fieldhouse.  KCC got stronger as the match went on.   Kirby Froge had 14 kills and  Emily Delmotte and Rose Techumseh each had 12.  Cameron Haley had 34 digs.  With the win, KCC moves to 10-3 overall and 5-3 in conference action.

MSU Players Wave Hearing

Three former Michigan State football players will head to trial after waving an evidentiary hearing.  Josh King, Donnie Corley Jr. and Demetric Vance are charged with assaulting a woman in an apartment bathroom in January.
