The Red Wings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 in pre-season play at Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit.  Both teams are 2-2-1 so far.  Most of the Penguin’s stars stayed in Pittsburgh, but the Wings fans had a good look at two big young players, in Anthony Mantha and Michael Rasmussen, who both scored.   Thomas Tatar made it 3-0 in the second, and Xavier Oullet had an empty netter at the end of the game.  Jimmy Howard was sharp in stopping 11 of 12 shots in two periods.

The Red Wings host Chicago on Thursday night and Toronto on Friday.

The regular season starts there October 5th against the Wild.
